Accessibility Statement
Last updated 25 September 2026
Our commitment
We want this website to be usable by as many people as possible, including people who use a screen reader, navigate with a keyboard, zoom in on the page or use other assistive technology. We're aiming for the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA. This is an ongoing effort, not a one-off checkbox. This statement covers web-zero.co.uk. Carbon Shrinker has its own Accessibility Statement inside its app.
What we've done
- Colour contrast. Text and background colours meet the WCAG AA contrast ratios, in both the light and the dark version of the site. We check this automatically. The site follows your device's light or dark setting.
- Keyboard use. Every page can be used with a keyboard. There is a "Skip to content" link at the top of each page, and a high-contrast outline shows which item you are on (we measure this too).
- Structure. Pages have a language, a title, one main heading and headings in order, with proper page regions for screen readers to jump between. Every image has a text description, and form fields have labels.
- Forms. Errors are written in words next to the field, not shown by colour alone, and the form tells you what to fix.
- No JavaScript needed. The pages, the menu on phones and both forms work without JavaScript, which keeps them simple and quick.
- Zoom and small screens. The layout adapts to phone-width screens without sideways scrolling, and text can be enlarged.
- Motion. Nothing plays automatically, and small hover movements are switched off for people who have asked their device to reduce motion.
- Charts. The sample emissions chart on the website audit page has the same figures written out as text next to it.
Where we are today
We haven't yet put the site through a formal accessibility audit against WCAG, and we haven't tested it with screen readers, so we are not making a formal claim that it meets the standard. We would rather tell you honestly where we are than overstate it.
Known limitations
- The reports produced by the free Website Assessment, and any other PDFs, may not be fully accessible.
- Other websites we link to, such as Carbon Shrinker and our partners, follow their own accessibility standards.
- When we add podcasts and videos, we plan to provide captions or a transcript. Where one is missing, please ask us.
Tell us about a problem
If you find something hard to use, or you need information in another format, please email Enquiries@web-zero.co.uk and tell us the page and what went wrong. We will do our best to fix it or provide the information another way.
